About the Walkhampton Memorial Hall

Our hall stands in five and a half acres of grounds gifted to the former civil parish of Walkhampton and the immediately adjoining area in 1955 by the Maristow Estate as a recreational site for Walkhampton and Dousland. The field was used as a football ground while money was gradually raised for the building of the hall, which was finally completed in 1967.

Since then a succession of improvements have been made to the hall, culminating in Project George, using a generous legacy from the late George Eggins of Knowle Farm. This enabled the kitchen to be extended and fitted with modern appliances and the roof to be replaced before the Covid pandemic brought further work to a halt. Plans are now underway to complete the project.

Outside, we were recently able to replace some of the children’s play equipment thanks to many generous donations, including grants from the National Lottery, West Devon Borough Council and the Maristow Estate.

The hall is registered as a Charity (Registration Number 301006) and is run by a Management Committee whose members are the Trustees.

As a Memorial Hall, we commemorate those resident in or connected with the parish who were killed in the First and Second World Wars. You can find out more about these men by clicking on the button below.

Walkhampton Memorial Hall today

Today Walkhampton Memorial Hall remains very much the centre of village life, much valued by the community, and we are always glad to hear from those willing to volunteer their help. We would particularly welcome contact from anyone with DIY skills who could help occasionally with small fixing or repair tasks.

We are also looking for more helpers to assist with our Saturday morning coffee shop. If you enjoy baking cakes, serving coffee and sweet treats to our visitors, greeting all with a friendly smile, please let us know.
